Industrial Engineering is a Magic Approach for improving Productivity

The US Supreme Court Justice Stephen Johnson Field (1816 – 1899), who once wrote that: Almost all enterprises that need to use large amounts of capital were organized in the form of companies. It was the companies in providing food and clothing for our people, decorating their homes, relieving the poor, helping sick person and making us live a prosperous life. It was just the companies that have such noble sentiments, not the others.


100 years later, in today, I would like to say that: The company where we are working for is a lifeboat to be shared by the employees and employer together to struggle for survival in the increasingly hard life, and everyone has to take care of the job in company as same as that of in home, since the company is the foothold in supporting our home stable. The facts are obvious, without the income from the work in company, what do our families’ live relying on?


However, a stable home must be based on a stable society; from this point of view, the company has a broader social significance, which is that it is the main pillar in supporting national economy by creating jobs for people in living making and revenue for government in social governing, which was the unique role that any others cannot play. But it was very disappointed, in Canada, for years, the low productivity and high cost in goods making has been in destroying companies and caused sharply decline in employment with suicides from jobless. The tragedy forces us to explore effective measures for reversing such situation.

Industrial Engineering is the magic in save companies by reducing cost and improving productivity quickly. 


Abstract                                              

This article aims at reducing wastes in end products, energy, Nitrogen and water by improving the equipments in outlet area of fryer, freezing system, auto-packaging system, exhaust system, dustpans and water gun…..

1.. To avoid products down ground by increasing the length of the conveyor from fryer to freezer to make sure deliver products to a proper position on freezer-belt and adding blocking plates on side-edges of conveyor.

2.. To reduce the wastes on line2 freezer by replacing the freezer-belt with the one in structure as that of using in line1, the shearing force from the elastic vibration of metal-wire-springs can shear down the products that frozen on the belt, which largely reduce the wastes than that of freezer-belt on line2.

3.. To avoid products down on the platform of packing machine from the metal conveyors by adding blocking plates on the area where the products were easily falling down and by hand covering the sensor to make the blocker on the conveyor keeping in blocking, until there is enough free room on the conveyor in vertical side.

4.. To reduce the work load and work resistance by redesign of freezer-belt to reduce its self-weight thereby avoid freezer belt abnormal dislocation and reduce the cost in energy.

5.. To avoid dysfunction of packing machine from water leaking by optimal setting up vertical and putting sponge in the vertical under rubber seals of the supporting poles of the feeding plates to receive water for avoiding leaking on PCBs and to be self dried up later naturally.

6.. Add Wind Turbine Air Ventilators on the outlet area of exhaust system to avoid outside wind blow in and thereby reduce the power of the exhaust fan.

7.. Downward reinstall the handle of Nitrogen valve on freezer for facilitating shutting off properly by standing on floor, thereby avoid the wastes in Nitrogen leaking and unsafe when shutting off on ladder.

8.. To save water by improving equipments for easily rinsing, such as, to make dustpans in bevelled edges from current vertical edges or simply flattened one side and to tilt dustpans from current horizontal state.

9.. To save water by redesigning water gun with 3-6 centimeters longer tip as the principle as that of long barrel to increase the impact power of water jet and make the water jet in broom-like.……

Also, more importantly, with certain length of talkative promotes the rationalization in ideology and social governance.


The introduction of equipments and process of production       

The whole production process and equipments of the plant of Quick Frozen Meats Foods was as follow:

1…Raw material preparation by blending.

2…Product's molding and bread crumbs coating.

3…Semi-frying.

4…Quick-freezing.

5…Auto-bagging.

6…Manual-boxing.

This article relates only to the production process from 4..Quick-freezing to 5..Auto-bagging, which is from Freezer to Packing Machine respectively, the related equipments in this process are as follow:

I have done some improvements already as possible as I could, but, many other improvements need to be done by mechanics under the conduct of the management.

1.1.. Reduce the wastes in end products         

In the process of Frozen Food Production, the products after frozen should be considered as end products, and those products have been fried in transferring into freezer for freezing should be also considered as end products, due to that the most of the cost for the production of them has been spent already, and there hence they have been gained the most of the value as pure profit.

The reduction of wastes in end products is more significant.

1.1.1.. Reduce the wastes in the input area of line2 freezer

As discussed above, the fried products that have reached the input area of the freezer were considered as end products, the wastes in this process will cause more loss in profit.

锚点1.1.1.1.. The shorter of conveyor caused products down ground

On line 2, there is a metal wires conveyor that transfers fried products from fryer to freezer, often there were fried particles and debris passed conveyor to leak down from the gaps of freezer-belt.

In the leaked particles and debris were often mixed with quality end products.
