THE President of the European Parliament has dealt a blow to Catalans wanting secession from Spain, by saying: "Nobody in Europe would recognise the independence of Catalonia".

Antonio Tajani backed Spanish prime minister Mariano Rajoy and King Felipe VI when he told journalists at today's EU summit that "nobody could accept" Catalan President Carles Puigdemont's declaration of independence following the referendum on October 1.
And he washed his hands of any responsibility over the crisis, saying it was not in the EU's "jurisdiction" to act as a mediator between Catalonia and Spain.
His words echo the attitude of Brussels, which has struggled to effectively address what is now Spain's biggest constitutional crisis for decades.
More than 2.2 million Catalans voted in the controversial referendum, with 90 per cent opting for independence.
But the vote was marred by shocking police violence, with officers using batons and rubber bullets against voters as they tried to reach the ballot box.
The EU came in for heavy criticism for its muted response to the brutality.
Earlier President Tajani said: "It would be good if the Catalan government does not proclaim independence."
He said the EU was "in favour of dialogue" but that the most important thing was "concord".
The Italian had previously claimed the issue of Catalan independence was "not a problem" for the EU but Spain, and should be addressed through the Spanish legal framework.
Previously the European Commission said the crisis must be resolved with “full respect of the Spanish “constitutional order”.
Heather Grabbe, director of the Open Society European Policy Institute think-tank told the Financial Times: “This kind of internal constitutional dispute is always really difficult for the EU.
“It is very hard for it to play a third party mediation role.”

Spanish Constitutional Courts have repeatedly found in favour of Madrid and Mariano Rajoy's government.
This week, a judge jailed two leading independence figures, Jordi Sanchez and Jordi Cuixart, on accusations of sedition.
Mr Puigdemont has ignored a deadline to drop Catalonia’s secession bid and instead accelerated moves for an independent state.
In a letter to Prime Minister Rajoy, he said: "The request to reverse repression has not been met... On the contrary, it has increased and has led to the imprisonment of the president of Ómnium Cultural and the president of the Catalan National Assembly, institutions of proven civic, peaceful and democratic trajectory.
"If the State Government persists in preventing dialogue and continuing repression, the Parliament of Catalonia may proceed, if it deems it appropriate, to vote on the formal declaration of independence."
In response Madrid said it would take extreme steps and remove the autonomy of Catalonia completely by triggering Article 155 of the constitution.

就在今天凌晨，已经陷入“分裂危机”将近1个月的欧洲大国西班牙，面对仍然拒绝放弃的加泰罗尼亚地区“独立分子”，终于拿出了能够终结他们的终极武器…
有趣的是，这一终极武器不仅令“加独”分子挨了当头一棒，更令世界另一端那些一直在闹腾“独立”的“台独分子”也感到了深深的绝望…

那么，这是什么终极武器呢？
原来，根据西方媒体报道，在今天凌晨（也就是西班牙周六的早上），西班牙中央政府召开了一场应对加泰罗尼亚地区独立的紧急会议。而在这次会议上，西班牙首相拉霍伊正式决定：
1. 他将用国家的【宪法】作为反分裂的终极武器，启动宪法中禁止他人分裂西班牙国土的155条款。
2. 根据155条款，中央政府不仅将直接剥夺加泰罗尼亚这个西班牙的自治区目前的“自治权”，更将废掉加泰罗尼亚地区现任的政府领导人，并在6个月内重新举行地区领导人的选举。
3. 中央政府还将收回加泰罗尼亚地区原本由地方政府掌握的治安管理权，并极大限制加泰罗尼亚地方议会的权力，令其不能再违背西班牙宪法“搞事”。

不过，为了抢占“道德制高点”，拉霍伊特意强调他本来并不想剥夺加泰罗尼亚的自治权，是当地政府持续【违宪】的行为逼得他没有其他选择。他还补充说他并不打算永久剥夺加泰罗尼亚的自治权，只要当地能在6个月内重新选出一个“爱国爱加”的政府，他就将归还当地的“自治权”。
而拉霍伊之所以面对分裂分子如此硬气，按照西方媒体的报道，是因为他现在已经获得了西班牙几乎全国上下的支持。其中，西班牙国会的反对党就明确表示反对任何分裂西班牙的行为，支持拉霍伊的反分裂的决策。
就连西班牙国王费利佩六世前两天也再次公开表示，他反对和谴责把加泰罗尼亚从西班牙的分裂出去的行为，支持西班牙政府维护国家主权领土统一和宪法的尊严。
在境外，欧盟也已经多次表态加泰罗尼亚的分裂问题是西班牙的“内部事务”，欧盟不会插手，也不希望加泰罗尼亚独立。欧洲议会议长塔亚尼更强硬表示“欧洲不会有任何一个国家承认加泰罗尼亚的独立”。
更重要的是，自加泰罗尼亚分裂危机爆发以来，当地旅游业已经出现严重下滑，多家企业更是从该地区搬走。西班牙媒体就特别报道了当地一家博彩公司把总部搬走的事情，调侃说“连运气都搬走了”…
所以，如今加泰罗尼亚的独立分子除了继续在街头抗议闹腾，大骂西班牙政府搞“极权独裁”，已经“内外交困”，再没有任何真正“独立”的可能。
另外，即便美国《纽约时报》这类“自由派”媒体目前在“煽风点火”，说什么西班牙中央政府打击分裂分子的做法会加剧加泰罗尼亚民众与中央的冲突。可实际上加泰罗尼亚独立公投的参与度只有42%，因此所谓加泰罗尼亚人“支持独立”的公投结果到底是不是“主流民意”的体现还很难说呢。
其实，就连加泰罗尼亚政府自己也认识到了他们独立的底气并不充足，这也是为何他们在公投结果出来后一直不敢宣布独立，上周当地政府更是在一度宣布公投结果有效仅仅15秒后，就又立刻宣布“暂缓独立”，想以此为筹码和西班牙政府谈条件…
然而，这种想用“分裂”要挟中央的做法，当即就被西班牙首相拉霍伊一口回绝了…

不过，在耿直哥看来，这起西班牙政府反分裂的战斗中最有趣的部分其实并不在西班牙，而是在世界另一端的台湾地区。
原来，自从10月1日加泰罗尼亚分裂分子发动公投以来，台湾几乎所有媒体都在密切关注“加独”的进展。其中，以《自由时报》为首的狂热“台独”媒体，他们在近一个月的持续报道中所流露出的情绪上的变化，更是颇具讽刺意味。
最初，《自由时报》和该报的铁杆粉丝一度歌颂对加泰罗尼亚人公投表现得极为兴奋，并迫不及待地就把台湾与加泰罗尼亚“挂了钩”。
可之后，随着西班牙政府持续出招打击分裂分子，如今又要直接剥夺加泰罗尼亚的自治权，《自由时报》也在后续的报道中不见了最初嚣张的样子，而该报的铁杆拥趸现在几乎都不再评论这个话题了…
毕竟，原本想把加泰罗尼亚当“噱头”的台独分子，如今看到全欧洲都在支持西班牙反分裂，这玻璃心内心肯定是碎成渣的。
但也有一些台独阿Q还不死心，并写出了下面这样的言论：
统派别兴奋，Catalonia独立得不到美国支持，是因为没有战略价值，台湾不同……
嗯，终于扯下了自己和主子们那块“民主自由”的遮羞布，挺好。
