how much you save depends on what kind of car you purchase. the HST applies to both new and 2nd hand cars.

two more fees I forgot to mention
1) If the vehicle is not made in north america, there's also a 6.1% duty paid at the border
2) If the vehicle is a gas guzzler, there's a green tax ranging from $1000 to $4000 paid at the border
