How to use laptop to pretect battery for a longer life? (水城百事)

Which one is correct:

1. use power adaptor whenever is possible, no matter the battery is already fully charged.

2. disconnect power adaptor whenever the battery is fully charged and use the battery until it runs out and needs a recharge.
