The most water is used during backwash which is about 6 to 10 minutes. It depends on your setting. In general it's around 200 to 500 litre per regeneration. (水城百事)

Baskwash is to remove all dirts trapped in the resin and prepare for brine/rinse process. Keep in mind, it doesn't mean it 's good if less water is used. It may result not enough cleaning during backwash.
