THE DIRECTOR OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL FUNCTIONS RELATED TO BUDGETING, FEE-FOR-SERVICE ACTIVITIES, FINANCIAL REPORTING AND CONTRACTS ADMINISTRATION.STARTING SALARY: $59,000
   
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Responsibility Areas
  • The Director will be a key member of the Centre’s Leadership Team reporting directly to the CEO who will provide senior leadership for all financial functions and business operations of the Centre;
  • Responsibilities will be focused on the execution of the strategic financial vision for KWMC and managing a team to achieve sustained efficiency in all aspects of finance, accounting, risk management & human resource management;
  • Responsible for delivering fiscal management on a day to day basis to enable the CEO to successfully focus on the strategic, long-term challenges and major opportunities facing the organization;
  • Leadership focused on the annual program of work by authoring the operating plan and creating the $2.4 million budgets, including but not limited to funder relationship management including funding submissions focusing on the statistical and financial reporting quarterly & annually;
  • This position has a leadership role in developing projects and proposals for grants and contracts and for administering grants and contracts received.
Program Support and Administration
  • Ensures accurate financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures in support of budget & forecast activities for all government/funder grants;
  • Prepares & leads with all aspects of the annual financial audit in addition to the coordination of information within the organization, Board and external audit agency;
  • Helps lead the implementation of a new Microsoft Dynamics 365 or a similar cloud-based financial reporting platform;
  • Acts as the organizational lead in initiating and supporting the annual United Way Campaign.
Budget Responsibilities
  • Prepares budgets for different grant proposals as requested by CEO, under critical externally-imposed deadlines;
  • Manages and prepares monthly financial statements for the Board of Directors.
QUALIFICATIONSEducation
  • Degree in Business Administration, Accounting or equivalent experience;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Auditing Standards;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of payroll practices and principles;
  • Demonstrated experience with Social Purpose Enterprises.
Experience
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience in financial systems and budgets, financial reporting, financial data analysis, auditing, taxation;
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience working in a culturally diverse environment;
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience in the not for profit sector;
  • Excellent communication skills in dealing with limited and non-English speaking clients, funders, community partners and colleagues;
  • Demonstrated experience in oral presentations, written reports and proposals.
Computer Skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and Sharepoint;
  • Proficiency  with online research;
  • Familiar with and adaptable to various technologies used in communication.
Soft Skills
  • Proven ability to manage competing demands and prioritize work within a context of multiple demands and priorities;
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, problem solving, decision making, analytical, active listening, mediation and negotiation skills.
Specialized Skills
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with complex and difficult matters requiring exceptional judgement and extensive knowledge of subject areas;
  • Comfortable with some ambiguity and less than complete information where decisions must be made and implemented;
  • Reviews own actions against the organizations strategic plan and priorities and considers whether short-term goals will support long-term objectives;
  • Visionary and a long-term planner – think beyond the work environment and makes decisions in the context of the total environment – clients, employees, community, sector and society;
  • Sets a professional example in the workplace in compliance with fundamental human rights practice, anti-oppression principles & good governance policy;
  • Knowledge of a second language is an asset;
  • Detailed knowledge of Waterloo Region;
  • Commitment to Organization Vision, Values, Diversity, Integrity.
Working Conditions

The work is typically performed in an office environment, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take this role to non-standard workplaces.      
This role typically works a standard work week, but additionally will occasionally work evening, weekends, and overtime hours to accommodate KWMC activities.
A police vulnerable sector check is required.
