Assistant Downtown Coordinator (Temporary)
The City of Kitchener is seeking an experienced Coordinator to join our Economic Development Team.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS. ALL APPLICANTS FOR THIS COMPETITION ...
1. Must be reliable with good attitude and employment record.
2. Must successfully complete a medical examination if required.
3. Must have the ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.
4. Must have a minimum 2 years post secondary education in a related field.(eg. engineering technology, project management, recreation administration, urban planning, landscape design, architecture, mapping technology)
5. Must have a minimum of 1 year professional level business experience including, public relations, project management, public presentations and analytical skills
6. Must have demonstrated ability to oversee all aspects of complicated interdisciplinary projects including scheduling, planning, monitoring and facilitating the completion of activities in a well organized and timely manner
7. Must have a strong understanding of municipal politics and the corporate direction including ability to work cooperatively with internal & external business partners. (social agencies, by-law enforcement, police)
8. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and deal effectively with a group of diverse members of the public
9. Must have highly developed Personal computer skills using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & Powerpoint)Outlook, project management software and Internet
10. Preference will be given to candidates possessing experience with CoK systems (ie. Cityworks, OnPoint, GIS and Amanda)
11. Must have demonstrated skill to gather, maintain and record database information accurately
12. Must have effective verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to be tactful, courteous and professional
13. Must have the demonstrated ability to develop accurate and concise reports for legal records
14. Must have demonstrated ability to maintain complicated interdependent scheduling documents with regard to downtown maintenance activities and contracts
15. Must have demonstrated ability to work independently with very limited supervision, as well as an ability to participate with a high degree of professionalism and maturity as an effective team member
16. Must have highly developed customer service/human relations skills in order to develop and maintain business relationships, under stressful situations at times
17. Must be comfortable working with media, public officials and business owners as well as the general public
FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
. Responsible for communicating pertinent information on a variety of construction and maintenance initiatives, through regular face-to-face interaction with downtown merchants;
. Maintain inventory & control of downtown streetscapes
. Develop Downtown Procedures Manual: including detailed GANTT Chart, systems modules, online shared documentation; standards and maintenance schedules for all activities within downtown for implementation by city staff, including outside agencies
. Coordinate Downtown Inter-departmental Resource Group meetings on monthly basis, update agendas, action plans, follow up on specific schedules and inquiries between meetings
. Conduct regular 'deficiencies' inspection of all streetscape and private buildings
. Organize response systems to 'deficiencies' inspection on condition of lighting, street furniture, waste disposal practices, phone booths, patios, sidewalk conditions, information kiosks and all other aspects of streetscape
. Coordinate response to property standards, private property damage, graffiti, abuse, safety considerations, signage or incidents related to poor building maintenance
. Manages special projects from inception to completion in order to achieve strategic goals for downtown developments. Examples: Single Point of Contact for all business concerns relating to the King Street Reconstruction project including parking, sanitation, access, real estate impacts
. Maintains high level of knowledge base - academic research and study on any related trends such mapping/database management, real estate trends, business attraction theory, urban revitalization, streetscape technology best practises
Salary: $21.44 - $26.80 per hour
