CTA Lab is seeking one Geoscientist Intern for 2025.  Intern should expect to work in asphalt, aggregate and concrete labs.  Applicants with some experience in aggregate will be value; geology knowledge is an asset.  Successful applicants are expected to working a minimum of four years in the facility, in return the facility will provide some flexibility for education advancement to meet the governing agency requirements.

Successful applicants will receive direct supervision under the Supervising Engineer who has been working in Construction and Transportation for 20 years with 10 years practising as an engineer with a physical science background.  Supervision by Certified Technician and Petrographer (rock expert).

Following completion of internship, successful applicants will be expected to carry similar/equivalent capacity to the Supervising Engineering within the company, including but not limited to tendering bids, training new technicians, supervising operation, checking and sign off on technician work and more. Individuals will also be expected to pursue and maintain their own consultation clients to support the laboratory through their project acquisitions; while collaborating on their colleague projects.  Individual expected to support the geology projects and clients in-house.  Individuals will also be expected to support the certification process necessary to maintain the certified laboratory, including but not limited to record keeping, calibration, round robins, audits and inspections.

Terms of Employment:
$18.25 to $35/hr based on experience+ benefits.  Start date June/July 2025.

Job Description:

1. Support the day-to-day asphalt, aggregate and concrete testing;
2. Assist with some design and investigations under engineer supervision;
3. Involved in technical knowledge exchange and client inspections;
4. Learn the provincial and regional standards;
5. Embody out core values in quality testing, client focus, team work and sustainability in the projects handled; and
6. Performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualification:

  • University education in geography, geology or related physical science;
  • Some knowledge in aggregate testing is an asset.
  • Some knowledge in asphalt is an asset;
  • Proven communication skills;
  • Detailed-oriented mindset and eagerness to learn;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others and to independently complete work as assigned;
  • Numeracy skills, strong organizational, self-initiator, time-management and multi-tasking skills is an asset; lift up to 25 kg;
  • Eligibility or intent to register with the provincial governing body; and
  • Availability to work throughout 2025.

Additional notes
While we do not require the individual to have a registered professional progress with Ontario (or provincial) governing agency, applicant should be able to describe their progress in their cover letter including academic courses completed in their bachelor degree.  This is a demonstration of intent to register with governing body.

Applicants considered for interview should be prepard to submit their transcript for review during the interview stage; those with studies outside of Canada should have translated transcripts ready.  Should applicant be lacking academics to meet governing agencies, thos should be described in cover letter.  The operation maitains Lifelong Learning Plan enrolment for those require additional funds to return to school.

Rate of pay is based on prior experience.  Those with no experience are still welcomed to apply and rate of pay will be determined accordingly.
