Example: 40000 grain capacity softener. If hardness is 25 grain/gallon, the capacity of softener is 1600 gallon. If you use 200 gallon water per day, the softener regenerates every 7 to 8 days.

The most water is used during backwash which is about 6 to 10 minutes. It depends on your setting. In general it's around 200 to 500 litre per regeneration.

Baskwash is to remove all dirts trapped in the resin and prepare for brine/rinse process. Keep in mind, it doesn't mean it 's good if less water is used. It may result not enough cleaning during backwash.

The most water is used during backwash which is about 6 to 10 minutes. It depends on your setting. In general it's around 200 to 500 litre per regeneration.
